OUR COMMUNITIES
OUR BAY
Our Communities, Our Bay
A five year project dedicated to better understanding how climate hazards affect communities in San Mateo County – specifically in Belle Haven, East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks, and Redwood City. To do this, CRC, alongside Stanford University and El Concilio of San Mateo County, will conduct a long-term study with households at-risk of wildfire smoke, extreme heat, and flooding.

Study Benefits
Everyone who joins the study will get to use an air sensor, and help us understand how climate hazards affect your community. Data from the air sensor can help you make decisions to protect your health when air quality gets bad. This is important because indoor air quality is related to respiratory health –the better the air quality, the better you breathe.
Enrollment for this three year project began in April 2022, and the study will end Spring 2025.
Over the course of three years, families who join “Our Communities, Our Bay” will:

Use Our Smartphone App
The “Our Communities” app shows you information about your air quality, and asks you questions about your experiences. You can also learn about smoke and air quality using the app.

Try out technology
You can use cutting-edge technology so we can find solutions that improve health. This technology could include custom app features, a HEPA air filter, air sensors, and more.

Share your experience
Through surveys, phone calls, or in-person meetings, we want to hear your opinions and experiences so we can understand how climate hazards affect you and your community.
